Pilots fly through hangar at 185mph in dramatic world first (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/aviation/11682534/British-pilots-fly-through-hangar-25ft-high-at-185mph.html)

Two British pilots have given a new meaning to barnstorming after flying their planes in formation through an outbuilding at 185mph.

Paul Bonhomme and Steve Jones recorded the world first in a 25-foot high hanger in North Wales. Due to the nature of the challenge, the pilots were required to get special permission from the Civil Aviation Authority, who were on site to oversee the manoeuvre.

Speaking after the events Mr Bonhomme said: "Ultimately if we get it wrong we hit a building, so pulling up and seeing Steve still there, there was a great sense of relief; but it was really great fun and also slightly bizarre flying through a building with my mate.”.....

Good footage and great skill.
How long, I wonder, before some lesser able and non-authorised individual thinks it is within their ability to have a go at something similar, with disastrous consequences...

Always the way, though, isn't it?

Flying under power lines or bridges, or buzzing the girlfriend's house, often ends in tears.

Superb flying, however.

Not the time for "Jones the tractor" to close the far end doors then!

Have a look at it on the full YouTube site - the ability to manipulate the view using the 360 POV facility is very impressive.

One for the Reds to consider - 360 POV not the hangar flying. Although a 9 ship through the Cardington hangar ....

I would be very surprised if these two weren't ex-military fast-jet pilots. Superb flying!

You are going to be very surprised then! There is talent outside the fast-jet force you know :)

James Bond did this years ago. Here is the pilot and the story of how to do it safely :

I believe PB is a BA captain...?

Both are 747 captains with BA. Both came up via the civil route.

"Both are 747 captains with BA."

Are we to assume, then, that this was just a rehearsal? I look forward to the real thing, when they use 747's.

I hope the 'No smoking in the hangar' signs were taken down.

Due to the nature of the challenge, the pilots were required to get special permission from the Civil Aviation Authority, who were on site to oversee the manoeuvre.and what exactly did the CAA plan to do, if part way through they didn't like the look of it?

Mechta I wondered about that to.
Plus what was the brief to the CAA?
"Er, well they open the doors, we fly really, really low, go through the hanger and then climb out."

Indeed, but they'll only be using one aircraft and they'll sitting beside one another ;)

Line astern. We used to with Nimrods. But only at night, so there are no videos.
