I don't mean that in a derogatory sense either, although clearly, there might be issues. But these days, 61 is still young(ish). Anyway, hope for you yet, Chuggers. :E

Superfit 61-year-old forced out of the Army on age grounds has been snapped up by the RAF - Wales Online (http://www.walesonline.co.uk/news/wales-news/superfit-61-year-old-forced-out-army-9248530)

I know my colonel didnt want me beyond 65. I cited Sir John Barraclough, then 84. OK, he was an ACM but still had a role with RAuxAF :)

Nice one by 614!

The RAuxAF have always been a bit more flexible on age limits than the TA (sorry, AR!) - though this must be stretching the rules to the max.

No doubt that the Military is a young persons game but on the other hand with better execise/diet/medicine we are staying younger longer and living older. I think the Miltary are missing out on a lot of (a) Maturity and (b) experience by capping the age limits.
The RN used to have a "Promised Man" Scheme where Men could be selected to go until they were 65. I met one of the last these fine Chaps at Collingwood. Lovely old fellow - full of good advice. His duties were Light but a lot of the guys & Girls looked up to him

As long as you meet the fitness test limits (and any future ones if they ever do make it harder like they kept promising...), why not? Its not as if you'd be blocking up the med centre (no eligibility on FTRS - assume the same for RAuxAF?).
I have noticed that the recent FTRS posts seem to be more LC than HC so I wonder if someone is dictating that "just in case...". Certainly a deterrent for me - done enough 'expeditionary' ta very much. Remember the RAF motto - "check-in, not dig-in" :ok:

After leaving regular service at the sprightly age of 50 I tried to join the RAuxAF, in a non-physical role.
Background, check. Clearances, check. Testing day, check. They declined my services. Their major concern seemed to be me dropping numerous ranks in order so to do.

Ho-hum, their call.

Current Gunner. Fire Team, not desk. Same age as rock and roll: made in 1955.

Extension submitted. :ok:
