Hey I'm wondering if Bristow's was the main company to handle the flights out to oil rigs off the Northern Western Australia coast back in 1985? Was there any other companies?

Cheers,

Loren

I think Jayrow Helicopters used to service the rigs from Karratha

Bristow started off with Wessex and at about 1985 imported their ex-North Sea/China 330Js.

Mmmmmm ...

1985 .... the other major operator offshore in Australia at that time was Lloyd Helicopters.

Commercial Aviation (an Evergreen joint venture) were just about out of business having lost contracts to LLoyds.

I think 'Helicopter Resources' were also dipping their toes in with their S76's (?).

And I believe the Okanaghan/Hookway S76 might still have been in work.

Other than for those above my memory fails ....

Cheers ....

Okanagan Australia finished in 1983 or 84. Lloyds were getting underway from about 1980 when they put their first 212 up north in Exmouth, we had a bit of a chat in the Potshot about little things for offshore. Dinghies, life jackets, fuel reserves; just the odd things needed for offshore!

Commercial weren't on the NW Shelf, more up north off the Territory.

Mayne-Bristow were the main player in town for offshore.

I worked on some of those rigs in '85. We were flown in Bristow's machines. I was flown in Lloyd machines in Bass Strait and I think the Timor Sea around the same time. Plus Helcopter Resources, Hookway and Jayrow in west coast of Tas in the late 70's & early 80's.
