Lots of people on Twitter just now reporting a 'very low fighter jet' overflying the city. I was in conversation with a friend near the city centre, and she commented on it as it happened. Saarch Twitter for edinburgh and jet...

They know what such things sound like, as they get a lot of it during the Tattoo. Can't see anything on FR24 to suggest anything nearby or over the North Sea which might be attracting airborne attention - any clues?

We've had a very noisy low flyby by a large jet from Brize this evening in Swindon. I wonder if that has any connection, or, if it's the wind up of the NATO Exercise, so well publicised in the press recently.

Smudge :ok:

Apparently... (http://www.edinburghnews.scotsman.com/news/low-flying-typhoon-jet-heard-over-north-edinburgh-1-3751710)

"In fact Air Traffic Controllers confirmed it was a Royal Air Force Typhoon aircraft carrying out what was described as a ‘routine military familiarisation’ flight over the city.

Sources said the training exercise, believed to have taken off from Lossiemouth, had been scheduled to take place at 8pm, but had been delayed"

Not very routine! Still getting Edi pals squawking about it. Bit of 'peace through vigilance' PR?

Just practising in case we vote SNP and need to be taught a lesson. I'm sure it flew right over Bute House. :O

A spitfire pilot once flew his plane between the goalposts and under the crossbar of London's tower bridge, think he was a New Zealander, was in 1945 and he did it because he thought he could.
I'd like to think it was someone thinking doing a similar sort of thing, now. to 'ell with 'ealth and safety pins..

I hope the large jet from Brize, flying over Swindon, was not a Voyager tanker the Typhoon over Edinburgh was possibly looking for !

Yesterday afternoon (Wednesday) was clearly the wrong afternoon for me to try to get three hours sleep following a series of 3am starts. Two Typhoons endlessly circling the local area presumably looking for the Chinnok that kept tiptoeing past my farmhouse in North Herefordshire.

I gave up in the end and sat on the roof terrace and watched. Keep it up boys. :ok:

Sensationalism at it's best tbh. It was in fact a Tornado GR4 doing a practice diversion, as they do frequently, granted not usually as late at night as this example.

Such flights never used to attract comment. The reason everybody notices these days is that airliners are very much quieter than thirty years ago
