Have been reading that Putin has now decided that it's ok to sell some S-300's to Iran. And then there was this story from USA Today who don't seem to know what year it is...;)

Iran expects Russian missiles by end of 2014 (http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/world/2015/04/14/iran-russian-missiles/25753281/)

As I read the literature, the S-300 has BMD capability. But do Iran have the IAD/radar/EW architecture to use it in such a role?

It's okay, we'll have F-35 soon 😉

I wouldn't want to engage in a S300 defended zone with F35...

I think the Falkland Islanders should buy a few sets of S-300 with their fish/oil money. Does the range hit the argie coastline, not got an atlas to hand.

S-300 missile round 48N6E2, 90 miles to 124 miles max range.
40N6 missile round, (in the S-400 system), up to around 210 miles range.

Under ideal conditions anyway . . .

Quite frankly I cannot see why Iran can not have these missiles, America are the ones who are invading and wrecking countries all over the world for made up reasons so why shouldn't Iran defend itself and why shouldn't Russia help them. I think people should open their minds to who is the real enemy, Look at the next US election what a choice "a Bush or a Clinton" god help us all.

The real enemy?

That would be, ignorance, utopianism, naive and last but not least, human nature.

The real humor in this deal I Putin's whinging about defensive Patriots and other BMD (defensive) missiles in Poland, whilst selling these BMD capable missiles to Iran.
Heh, not that I'm surprised. On the other hand, plenty of other nations have long range defensive missiles. If Iran wants more defense, is it really that big of a deal? They live in a dangerous region.

I wonder how Putin would feel if if the Yanks or Israelis flogged advanced defense weapons to the Ukrainians.

Why would the Israelis do that? Don't they have enough trouble locally? I can see why some of the NATO nations might pursue such an arms deal. Use the armaments production lines or lose them. :hmm:

"I wonder how Putin would feel if if the Yanks or Israelis flogged advanced defense weapons to the Ukrainians."

probably the same as USA would feel if Putin flogged S300 to Mexico or Cuba...Iran is however quite far from USA

If he successfully sold the S300 to Mexico, he'd be laughing all the way to the bank. They don't need it, so a dime spent on it would be the snake oil salesman getting the rube to pay up.

Ya gotta love this guy.

He's trying to be more like NATO, and offer up long range defensive missiles, so NATO or the US must therefore be more like the Soviet Union, since we can't be the same ... or we're all the same!
(Wait, he can't take the latter position, as he'd have no bogeyman but himself! :E )
Let us give Vlad some credit: he never disappoints.
