Don't know what the transponder is in a Grob but you can bet your bottom dollar if it's a KT78 plus a sprog he's not switched it to standby to change squawk and 'spun through' 7700.

I get 7700 alerts for Tutors a few times a week on FR24, mostly in the Lincs area. I've guessed no biggie as nothing makes the news and the Tutor still seems to be flying! I'd guess the same about most 7700's - maybe a drama for those involved at the time, but given they seem to happen every day and they rarely make the news, they're just not noteworthy to the layperson.
