I'm tasked over the next month or two to furnish an official residence 'overseas' which will be used for hosting and receptions. The previous occupant was RN and had on loan a great selection of Mess trophies and paintings to provide a suitable nautical theme. Clearly, I would like to dominate the space with air memorabilia. There is funding to move and insure items. Inquiries with Air Command Ceremonial and Heritage have drawn a blank as to Mess trophy holdings (IIRC they were at Quedgely and Stafford).

PPruners: Any suggestions whom I should contact? PM details

They used to be in a hanger at Mildenhall but they were removed by a party with fake movement orders and two 'borrowed' three-tonners around 1949.

Might be worth giving the RAF Museum a bell ... Historic Mess Silver is certainly within their collecting policy ... mainly pre 50's artefacts.

I tried this when Dep Stn Cdr at RAF Ascension Island. I was told that Stafford kept unwanted mess silver. When I got there I found out why it was not wanted! Worth a call, maybe?

Whenurhappy,

I've been in the fairly rare position, of late,of being involved in the reformation of a Sqn.

All the memorobillia of defunct Sqn and Stns are now 'controlled' by RAF Heritage at HW, (I must admit why a contracting RAF now requires the Air Historical Branch and RAF Heritage is a bit beyond me).

Hope this helps.
