There were many pilots who shot down Spitfires and were shot down by Spitfires, but I would hazard that few of them were in the RAF.

I was on a couple of airline press jollies with Geoff in his early Telegraph days - very competent in what was (as noted) a totally unfamiliar milieu.

And what an excellent AOC MATO he was too ... A very fine officer, with no 'nasty side' that I ever saw.
