“I was elated to see him standing in front of the aircraft,” he said.
“He had a lacerated head and hands.
“We (Mr Richter and his student) had a first aid kit and put a bandage on him.
“We didn’t talk about the crash at all."

“We didn’t talk about the crash at all."

something for young blades to keep in mind

there's a time to sit on your hands and shut your trap

(one of the late Captain Percy Tresize's dictums)

“The pilot tried to get back on the runway and he was that low when he turned that it just hit the ground on the final turn,” he said.

Quote from farcebook, author is a reliable source and can claim credit if he wishes;
"First flight in Onex. Took off 23, climbed slowly, to about 200 feet sounds about right, maybe 300. Turned crosswind, which turned out to be downwind for 13 instead, followed by a right turn to close base and then final. Stalled in that turn and disappeared below trees."

Sounds as though he was one lucky/good pilot to get away with that one at low level - ignoring whatever put him in the predicament to start with.

Radical thinking. Actually proposes some simplification.
