Vlad is starting to sweat, his criminality is slowly starting to emerge so he is using threatening tactics, I presume.

The murder of Mr. Litvinenko put many hundreds of people's lives in jeopardy and he knows it, he knows there will be consequences if it is suggested beyond reasonable doubt that, that order came from the very top. He refused to extradite the two individuals and that, to me (being the cynical barsteward that I am) suggests he has something to hide.

I believe they came down the usual GIUK route and turned left at the Scillies. Nothing at all to do with the Litvinenko inquiry, of course. Just a coincidence.:suspect:

Hmmmm, according to beeb, they "flew right arround UK, came within 25 miles (tricky, near Dover that would put them over France) and were intercepted by RAF Tornado's. Well done MRCA:ok:

Absolutely pointless, they won't hold their hands up, they never do. Obviously this was not just a "routine sortie", the Russian Federal Government has an objective in mind. They are being shunned by most civilised Western countries for attempting to destabilise Ukraine, they have repeatedly lied about withdrawing all of their deployed assets, their economy is collapsing due to the sanctions imposed and if there is significant evidence in the Litivenko inquiry which suggests Putin is responsible, it's likely he will have an appointment in The Hague.

The flight was around the west coast of the British Isles, around the Isles of Scilly and up the English Channel. they didn't get as far as Dover!

I posted the following on the FC Forum a little while ago.
As I say , make of it what you will , but it certainly suggests the Bears
flew as far east as Eastbourne before turning about.

A replay of yesterday's movements in the Channel show the Typhoon heading east mid channel on the edge of UK FIR
It then turns about abeam Eastbourne and runs parallel to the FIR boundary with tanker some way behind until abeam Selsey
where the Typhoon carries out one RH orbit and meets the tanker and starts refuelling.
Tanking is complete abeam Swanage , tanker turns north , Typhoon departs to the west again following the line of the FIR boundary.

Make of this what you will , but it suggests that the Tu54s "did" fly up channel as far as a line Eastbourne/Dieppe

What sort of altitude are these games played at? I would have thought that most of the Channel is pretty busy with airliners in CAS up to around FL450.

And if they are flying just outside the London FIR boundary then they must be within the Paris or Brest FIR. Don't the French mind the infringement of 'their' airspace?

All this happened at around FL270 +/- 2K or so

XLF911M/SE911 32K
FPO 338K 30K
FXR18G 29K

appear to have changed course.

According to a Russian Air Force spokesman the Tu-95s were intercepted by French fighters.

Two TU-95 strategic bombers (dubbed 'Bear' by NATO) have taken off from Russia's Engels air base on the Volga River on Thursday, and have successfully completed their tasks according to an air patrol plan, Russian Air Force spokesman Colonel Ivan Klimov said in a statement.

The flight route passed above neutral waters of the Barents and Norwegian seas, as well as the Atlantic Ocean, the colonel said, adding that the flights lasted for over 19 hours, with two midair refueling operations carried out during the mission.

The bombers were accompanied by Russian Air Force MiG-31 supersonic interceptor aircraft. At some stages, the patrolling aircraft were escorted by UK, Norwegian and French fighter jets, Klimov said.

Russia's Air Force spokesman said that the air patrol flights were carried out according to an approved plan, and were conducted in strict compliance with international regulations of the use of airspace above neutral waters, without violating other countries' borders.

UKsatcomUK.......On that day I heard a great heavy/rumble sound of engines over an area of Eastbourne, certainly not a helo arriving at the local hospital of which I'm aware of and familiar. Living on a second floor flat my windows only allow a view West and North, so unfortunately could not view the a/c.

You probably heard the Typhoons and tanker as they turned about
in mid channel.

Still not confirmed that the Tu95s came that far east.
