All,
The family Tartare was at Dee Why Beach yesterday.
Young Tartaress was in the sea with her mates, while Master Tartare was having a yarn with his old man (trying to stay out of the sun under his daggy Dad Akubra).
Suddenly a large rotary wing craft (a Bell 414??) with `Police' on the side appeared in the sky, and flew a parallel line to the coast.
The sliding door on the side was slid back, and my boy is dead cert sure he saw "...a guy in armour sitting in the doorway..."
I assume said ship was on shark patrol, given the number of sharks spotted on the NSW coast recently.
And said guy in armour - would he have been a sharp-shooter in one of those gyro stabilised chair thingeys, that the coppers use to shoot nasty people - and nasty fish - at large distances?
Just curious, that's all.

Have you asked any Police officers?

PolAir 5 is a brand new Bell 412, and was patrolling the northern beaches yesterday after some training in the the Ku-Rin-Gai National Park. Probably you saw the crewman in the door, not much chance of body armour!

I was gunna say it was Idi Amin's personal 412 being re-purposed for a good cause., but maybe I've been out in the sun too long :}.

Most likely the `armour` was a 6-pack of `fosters`..

cattletruck,

Amin had a 212, which was flown by one of our Okanagan Australia pilots before he came to his senses. He didn't talk about the experience other than to admit that he did the job; Amin was a loathsome product of the time.

"Re-purposed" would apply to the second and third VicPol SA365C Dauphins, which were previously the personal helicopters of Nicolae Ceaușescu, the Romanian communist head of state.

The flight was done to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Polair 4 BK 117 ditching in the water off Balmoral beach.

The commemoration was unsuccessful, the aircraft made it back to base dry and in one piece.

Probably because Chucky wasn't flying it.
