27 Sqn Comms
18th Jan 2015, 22:03
In 2015, 27 Sqn will celebrate their 100th anniversary, culminating in a formal meal and hangar party at RAF Odiham. Come and celebrate with us, whether you’re rotary or fast jet, front end or back end, aircrew or engineer. All ex-squadron members are invited, but space is limited - email us at [email protected] early to avoid disappointment!

Hope you have a good turn out and a cracking piss up :)

Are we allowed to say piss up these days?

When is it though?

Nothing new - back in the mid-70s when 27 flew real aeroplanes at Sunny Scampton, albeit only on boat-spotting duties, most of their aircrew were already approaching 100 years old, or so it seemed to those of us on 35 and 617!

albeit only on boat-spotting duties

and oil rig-spotting duties!
Highly effective. Not one was ever stolen!

Many of us would like to go. If only we knew when, though! Did Nellie forget? :p

It was said at sunny Scampers in those days that when 27 crews arrived in funspots, e.g. Hickolulu, they would retire to bed to drink gin and tonics.

Perfectly reasonable not to advertise details on here - when we on 203 were publicizing our Centenary nearly two years ago (get some time in 27 ;)) we got told off for putting too much information in the public domain - and that was before Lee Rigby (RIP) and everything which has ensued. No doubt those with a healthy interest in the 27 Sqn event will be vetted when they contact the e-mail address...

Have a good one, Elephant Men (and Women)!

Understood on the opsec, but a little clue would help! Even just an idea of the month would let me know how far ahead to plan.

According to WiKi

27 Squadron formed at Hounslow Heath Aerodrome on 5 November 1915, soon being equipped with Martinsyde Elephant fighter aircraft
5th November - now that date rings a bell....
