I've visited Brunei for work several times over the years.

It's a very quiet and comfortable place. There is very little crime or poverty (except for Bangladeshi workers). Never seen any corruption like you'd see in Indonesia or Malaysia.

It's a fairly serious Muslim country, but it does not have a bit impact. People take off for the mosque on a Friday morning that's about it. As an expat you are cut a bit of slack and can even buy booze discreetly.

Be discreet, courteous and polite. Don't talk about religion, politics or the Sultan. It would be a boring place for a single party-loving guy, but good for a family. The locals tend to be very decent and honest.

Nothing has changed, sleeve left years ago, but doesn't appear capable of actually leaving.
