I am off in my R44 on a trip to Russia and Belarus in May. Anyone else fancy the trip - it will be two weeks long. My friend Sam Rutherford is helping with the organisation.

So sorry for you who take away from others.

He's taking a Toyota Corolla?

Two weeks might work. I went the other direction (and a bit further, and a bit further south) in a medium twin a few years back in about 5 days.

Regardless of how well the planning is done, expect bureaucratic or logistical delays en route. They will very likely happen, and more of them the further east you get.

Ah, unless you have the right friends in the right places - and when they're flying R44 and R66 in Russia - then they do have (or are) those friends!

That being said, there's always time lost at airports, anywhere...

Fly safe, have fun! Sam.

Shame if you was going in August you could stop at Poland for the world helicopter championships

lol, yep, although that looked like a pretty crap RHD conversion. I've seen some very nice RHD conversions that put that one to shame.

Also i think it was built for slightly larger roads...

sorry for the thread drift, have fun in Russia, but i would suggest staying away from the Ukraine, or Crimea....

That's what I had thought, but when I looked it up it appeared not to be the case. 40M Corollas v. about 34M F-150s. Once you get up around 20M vehicles, pretty soon you're talking real money.

Why didn't you go in 2012 with the Helicopter Club?

Hi,

The 2012 event was to enter as a team in the World Championships - our trip was a private one (no competition involved). As much about the destination as the flying.

Cheers, Sam.

We wanted to do something different to the World Championships plan - but perhaps more usefully 2012 was 3 years ago. Waiting for the next World Champs to be held in Russia could be a really, really long wait!

Cheers, Sam.
