As above, I was given three '76mm HESH' shell cases by my uncle, ex, raf regt (retd 2012), as a 10/11 year old :*
I've just come across the cases again, one is marked as above:
http://i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q673/4ndrewparker/IMG_20141223_221307_zps46fcfeqv.jpg (http://s1353.photobucket.com/user/4ndrewparker/media/IMG_20141223_221307_zps46fcfeqv.jpg.html)

Another is stamped CART ELEC ENG START N°10 MK3 B& SB86 5
stamped from 'N' in Eng: NEC /A015 3/86

The shorter case (6 -8mm) is stamped CART.ELEC ENG. START B&SB 8710
Stamped from the 'E' in ELEC to the second 'T' in start : NEC / A020 10/87

Any help in identifying the engines these were used to start would be appreciated.

In my world, HESH stands for "High Explosive Squash Head" which sounds like an adventurous way of turning an engine over!

I stand to be corrected, but I recall the 10 Mk 3 was for the Canberra triple breech starter. PR7, E15 and others

9 Mk 2 for the single breech. B2, TT18, T4 and others

I also have a couple in the shed

As he was ex RAF Regt. the 76 is likely to be from the CVR(T) Scorpion, which the Regt. operated.
