Video Cameras + mounts for B206

Can anybody suggest a low-cost option for a B206, either internal mounted or external ?


the requirement is not for any Hi-Def quality, but something like a Go Pro quality. Not too expensive


For passing to the passengers after a joy flight.


I did a search, but got lost

I'm not across the legality of bolting stuff to your aircraft, type approval and all that.

Recording inside the cabin or outside? ,if inside perhaps something with a very wide angle lens may be needed.

Shooting the view outside, drone technology is coming on leaps and bounds, there are some very sexy 3D gimble mounts out there for say £1500 that can carry Cannon 5D's or Panasonic lumix G4 cameras. Thou you would also need the guidance system from a drone to drive them but I guess for £2000 you could have a fairly sophisticated mount.

Ok if you don't want to spend that and just want to hook up a camera Go Pro's have their uses and can deliver great footage but they have their limitations.
(i) no optical stabiliser so lots of vibration in the shot.
(ii) CMOS type sensor, great images from it for its small size but it does not tolerate rapid movement too well due to how the picture info is taken off the sensor, the image will look like its shaking like a big jelly. Its called the jello effect.


Pretty much any little video camera with a optical image stabiliser will help enormously, if you can delve into the camera settings select a high shutter speed 1/500 or similar for best results.
If your camera can overcrank even better... that is instead of shooting video at 25 frames per second fps(Europe 30fps for USA) some can be told to shoot at 50fps. This will help dampen vibration and gives a lovely slo mo effect, the Go Pros can overcrank so if your stuck with a Go Pro go into the settings and change it to a mode of a faster frame rate.

The GoPro Hero 3 was tried, inside the cabin, and the output needed to image stabilize, post recording. Minus post recording stablisation it was really shaky, as you say.


GoPro Hero 4 too lacks IS :(


Not a plug and play thing.


Looking at the Sony Action Sport, as that has Image Stabilisation


For external, I was hoping somebody can suggest a 'low cost' option, as the options available are pretty steeply priced, agreed, with the certification etc, price is bound to go up.


If any Plan B comes up, I am all ears !!

Try the overcrank feature on the GoPros, its one of their modes on the camera if you delve into the menu settings, try 1080 / 60 fps.

Also look at buying a cheap drone mount something like this:

The rubber mounts help tremendously even with an optical stabiliser.
