(CNN) -- ISIS is in possession of three warplanes in northern Syria, and former Iraqi military officers are training members of the Sunni Islamist militant group to fly them, a Syrian opposition group said Friday.

The planes are at the Al-Jarrah military airport east of the contested city of Aleppo, the London-based Syrian opposition group Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reports.

One has to wonder why the former Iraqi officers aren't flying them for ISIS? One way missions planned??

Just take-off practice then.

What is the range of one of these fully fuelled, I wonder?

Looks like this is the place: https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@36.0953021,37.9368596,2611m/data=!3m1!1e3

Plenty of what could be Mig 19s on the southern taxiway and 2 L-39 Albatross in the compounds there.

former Iraqi military officers

I'd imagine much of ISIS leadership is made up of disenfranchised former Iraqi military

Having been mightily dicked twice as memberes of a real army, I wonder why they would then pop along to fight for a bunch of nutters willing to die for allah. They were keen to chuck it in back then- what changed?

L-39s the most likely aircraft, according to Jane's

The only real fight will be in plans; the mudmovers will want to bomb them and the AD pukes will want to shoot them down!
May I suggest the latter will look better on the 6 O'Clock news!

Future ISIS Air Arm?

Shortly to become an Air Stump, I reckon.

It would take at least a month to read the aircraft husbandry section of the F700 before they got that heap airborne!

He doesn't really look like a "Reading the whole F700" kind of guy.

In fact, he'd probably only bother to even kick the tires if they stuck Obama's picture on them.

I wouldn't worry chaps ... as I'm sure ISIS hasn't got round to creating a MAA as yet :E

Abandoned when the existing Iraqi Army was disbanded and then you have Sunni via Shia - and I suspect they are getting the nutters to do the dying for them

The reality is that the flying footage is old rebel footage of a Syrian Air Force L-39 attacking their positions. See following.

Footage of MiG-21s in IS hands. Those airframes are in a very poor state.

Priorities, priorities. These chaps have to report to the Force Development Flight (=Education Section in old money) to attend annual Equality and Diversity Training first

I'm sure the guys sitting in F-15's and F-22's are just desperate to see those MiGs. The British Typhoon force too if they get deployed? :8
