One of the guys on the Flypast forum is posting some of his fathers photographs from the 70's and 80's

For those interested my dad was FL LT Keith James Middleton

As there is quiet a possibility a lot of folks in here may have known him, I have linked you to the post, and some excellent photos, love the Hunters decorated with "Hello Sailor"

NutLoose, if your father was a Hunter pilot, then the chances are I did meet him, I was in Oman in the late 70's on the Hunter line, and I remember going to the bomb range with quite a few others to watch the aircraft in action, sadly the photo's I took, where sent back to UK for printing, and when returned, it was someone else's wedding photo's, I returned them but never received mine back.

Nice photo's

I'm halfway through the book 'Jaguar Boys' which has some great stories from the SOAF/RAFO days (and puts a few 'tales' in perspective). It was a bit tamer when we went for a spot of Maritime Patrol on behalf of the Sultan although we used to see the jags under the sun-shades occasionally when they popped in. I'd recommend the book - good to get some balance to the 'under-powered' reputation of the jag.

Talking to an old Valley accomplace recently he mentioned serving on Hunters in Chile. I didn't ask for details at the time. Does anyone know what the RAF involvement might have been. i.e. training.

In 1966, I believe, some Chilean Air Force chaps did a conversion course at Chivenor. I imagine any Brit who went to Chile did so from Hawkers.

Having flown Jaguars in Oman for 9 years I can assure readers that underpowered is correct, even with the upgraded Adours.
We once had to launch Jaguars with 2 external tanks and 4x 1000 lb bombs. They used most of the 15000 ft runway and, having cleared the Wali Camp the wing tip vortices were still raising dust as they headed towards Rubkut Range!

ISTR that Iain A-R (RIP) went to Chile on Hunters years ago and had to eject in a bunting manoeuvre and did bad things to his spine

A2, were you there when Rick Lea's bomb went off under the wing?
