Thank you to the Hawk who bounced the Chinook over my farm - I had just woken up after lates ;)

Awesome display and thanks to the Chinook crew for the fly past at the end - I was the guy in a dressing gown on the farmhouse lawn. That sure looked like fun!

I too saw it. Why no use of the vertical? The weather was suitable. I would suspect the Chinnook has poor upwards and especially high 6 lookout.

Camouflaged helicopters can be awfully hard to see when looking down. The giant wobbly death banana is slightly easier to see when level(ish).
Besides where would the fun be in shooting from above?
Not revealing secret tactics before anyone shouts Beadwindow. Just common sense really.

Well, Bob, speaking as an ex-air defender a kill is a kill, fun or no. I agree that rotary can be hard to find when looking down on them, but once found, not hard to see.
Still it is a while since I joined in the fun. But today's Hawk didn't seem to be trying very hard to do anything apart from pull more level g in big wide predictable circles.

Why no use of the vertical? - the Hawk, I assume....:)

Many years ago I led a flight of 4 Hawks to bounce 4 Jaguars in Scotland. We knew their route and loitered at 10,000 f over a large lake. When they crossed the lake we dived nearly vertically and bounced them at 540 kts. One Hawk behind each Jaguar... They were surprised!

Glad you enjoyed it. I was one of the crew members. We were short on time hence no use of the vertical for the FJ mate. And he got no shots on us!! so I guess we won

the Hawk (probably 100 Sqn) will have flown pre-arranged attack profiles for the benefit of the helo crew - this is normal training. As for whom might have come off better in such engagements is 'beadwindow'. That said, ask around..!!

Well thanks for the display. I was half asleep as the toast popped up and suddenly a Hawk flashes past the window sideways instantly followed by the always alarming sound of a Chinook at full power heaving on the collective. It felt rather like breakfast Taliban style for a second.

I've had a few calls from neighbours who were all really impressed. Do drop by again, you'll get no noise complaints in this area. It's an impressive machine and you do an impressive job with it. :ok:
