Anyone see on AFAP website today a job for a Cherokee 6 pilot. My only question is how many 200ish hour pilots are going to have or be able to source their own accommodation on Groote Eylandt? If I read the ad correctly that's what prospective pilots have to do!

Finding own accommodation on the Eylandt will be difficult unless you're in the know with the mine or connected with the local council. One established operator set up a "remote" groote base on a neighbouring island due to not being able to find accommodation for an extra pahlot. You'll be needing a car also as the town is a fair way from the airport and you don't want to be living in the local community around the corner:ok:

Has the new gen of 'bush pilots' gone soft? Lob into Anindilyakwa and ask for a room , then you won't need a car. It's a nice stroll from there to the airport and the rent for a room is cheap.

I have to admit even as an unemployed pilot that thinks beggars can't be choosers I looked at this ad and went WTF?

Needed to know you can get accommodation in a fairly closed community before applying is more than a little ridiculous and I'm sure everybody that lives and works there is glad to be getting phone calls from wannabe's trying to tee something up just so they can apply

Anindilyakwa is a language and a people, not a place. Angurugu is the community you're talking about and there is no way anyone would have lived there back in the 90s and it hasn't changed since then
That's right it is too, thanks for reminding me. It's been well over a decade since I lived there ( not in the white fella's town....in Angurugu) . I'm not sure why you think that " there's no way anyone would have lived there" ....I really enjoyed it. Was a bit of a pain when the shop got cursed of course and the dust ups at night could get a bit hairy but overall a good experience.
You sound like you yourself may have lived there chazwazza, is that the case or do you stay at the other end with the white fellas? Great place anyway. If I was a fresh CPL right now I'd jump at that job, great way to launch a career assuming you get paid an appropriate amount ( food won't be cheap) .
Cheers, Framer

Arafua?
Is that the same dude that used to fly left hand circuits out of Wyndham (RWY12) for Oombi and let passengers sit on top of beer cartons?

It's what you make it Blueskymine.

Bowser refuelling, sealed runway, rpt serviced, runway lights, navaids, great fishing, ARC, golf club, great flying, great mates.

Plenty of reasons why the Groote guys and girls were better off than many others.

So the job is gone. Contacted the guy on saturday and the position went to someone already living there. Good thing I found out was in the process of booking ticket to head out there.
