Initial again or not?

Hi all!


I am going to study in the uk the atpl , cpl/Ir /mcc very soon , I`m already holder of a first class medical certificate issued by an easa country,


does anyone of you guys know if it is necessary to pass an initial medical certificate again in Gatwick?


would be enough if I transfer my medical file to the uk caa ( " soli process")?


I Don´t know if it is mandatory to have passed an initial in the country in which my future licences are going to be issued.


But in the other hand an easa licence is supposed to be valid in every country which belongs to easa.

Furthermore I have been doing the PPL this year in a different country of the one where I did my medical and there was no problem at all.


could someone provide any idea?

Give the CAA a call as I have found them very helpful over the phone recently.
They will give you a yes or no answer over the phone.

The initial medical is issued by an Aero Medical Center (AMC) and is valid for a period for 5 years (regardless of age and class). Meaning during this 5 years period the medical can be renewed by any Aviation Medical Examiner (AME) how is qualified to do so. Usually an active pilot is not affected by this time limit because he needs to see an AME on a regular basis. But if you haven't been flying for 5 years (meaning you haven't been to an AME and your medical lapsed, as well as your pilot license) then you have to go to an AMC again to get a new medical. Usually the country which issued the medical is also the issuing country of your pilot license, you should tell your flight school or the examiner that you already hold an EASA Medical issued by another EASA country.

ok. so then. I just have to transfer my medical file to the uk and make my renewal in there.


is great because I specially wanted to avoid an initial examination again.

I just have to transfer my medical file to the uk and make my renewal in there.Yes, but you could also do it the other way around, tell your flight school to transfer the paperwork to the Spain authorities (once you've passed your check ride, provided that your initial medical was issued in Spain as well) for somebody who's living there, that'd probably be more convenient.

which you say then is that rather to make my renewal check in the uk and transfer all paperwork from Spain to the Uk, is to make the renewal in the uk and transfer everything to Spain afterwards?


Please confirm that.


Anyhow I have to give a call to my flight school and the caa as well to figure out which is the easiest way.

Yes, talk to your flight school they will tell which way is the best.
