Anyone have any further information on a proposed plan to build a string of luxury hotel Casinos with a Las Vegas style strip out of the World Islands?

I thought this was all banned in UAE?

That's the first I've heard of it and I read the local business news.

It is a very interesting idea.

What other use could The World be. So far away logistically from the 'action' .

It has to create a "draw" - sexy casinos for the Chinese.,.. Brilliant

The casino will be for management only. Normal pilots are not allowed to do this trip. Only management may have fun.

Bit off topic but Cairo has fully-fledged casinos in the biggest hotels. Not open to Egyptians (passports to be shown) and all payments in hard currencies only. Nice little earner.

On topic - the World is not far enough offshore to qualify as being outside territorial limits in the normal sense of that definition. Can't see it happening - but the rumours have been around for years and resurface occasionally.

Beirut had a casino back in 1959!

World Class entertainment and food. Generally more emphasis on catering to high end players though.

Don't see it happening, speculation was the Burj (Al Arab) was going to be a casino and certainly the bar on the cross piece had casino carpeting when it opened, including blackjack and roulette themes and even clearly marked stations. Killed by the neighbours just before opening and hence the "gift" of the building to SZ shortly after.
Old hands will also remember the casino ships that used to sail every Friday to return Saturday morning, in the end shut down by the neighbours again.
So pretty doubtful.

Ras Al Khaimah had a Casino around 1972

Casino was in a hotel operated by the Abela(?) organisation out of the Lebanon

So the story went it was damaged by fire after a local worthy was pressed to settle his account - allegedly he arrived with entourage, cleared the joint and lobbed in a couple of 'military style fireworks'!!!!

Ras Al Khaiman still has a 'casino' if you can call it that, in the reception area of the Hilton hotel (the old one) behind the doors/windows that are covered in one way decoration they have slot machines and electronic roulette table, so everything here is possible....
