I just wondered how civil air traffic is being affected by the latest talking shop near Rome.

Also noticed from CNN.com/Europe that the Italian air force had to escort a Sudan Airways 320 away fro Rome into french airspace; radio faults blamed, most encouraging.

Also can confirm that usual daystopping aircraft including freighters affected by this. Tupelov 204 which is Russian woz booted out made made to go to Pescara today.

Other ops affected by this as well due to "inadequate" parking space available.

What about the day in day out users? ****** them ! seems to be the attitude

This brief was issued to our crews operating to Rome Fumicino whist the NATO conference was on.

Operations to LIRF/FCO on 27th/28th May

Due to the NATO summit Italian ATC have issued NOTAM's with restricted areas around LIRE, Pratica Di Mare Airport. At the same time procedures into LIRF/FCO have been modified or suspended. The following charts are valid for operations on the 27th/28th May

LIRF STAR Chart. (Modified Procedure)
ILS/DME OST -S RWY 34L (New Procedure)
ILS RWY 16R (Modified Procedure)
VOR/DME RWY 07 (Modified Procedure)
ILS/DME RWY 16C (Modified Procedure)
LLZ/DME FNN RWY 16C (Modified Procedure)

Special security arrangements are required by Italian regulations for the period 0800-1300UTC on the 28th May only. All aircraft operating into and,out of FCO must have a security guard on board during this period. Crews must confirm the presence on board of the security personnel to all Italian ATC units on first contact entering Italian airspace or departing from Rome Fiumicino airport.

Sept 11 has made a growth industry of temporary restrictions and procedures. :D

Thanks, Bristolre and Thunderbug, very interesting. :)
It's becoming depressingly normal for governments and especially supranational bodies to grandstand like this without considering the effect on Joe Public, wot pays the taxes.
