Heard the throaty roar, knew what it was, and only caught a Spit and Hurricane, I'm getting old I reckon. I'm sitting in the back garden on 14th if its to be a repeat.

I do like how the BBMF website appear to have adopted the nose art names for the Lanc and others and tell their story.

However many people tried to get into Duxford today and were disappointed - other than me that is! In the P&R at about 1000, 25 mins into queue for P&R ticket machine when told gates were closed. After some thought and an abortive try for one possivle vantage point, ended up on the verge by a roundabout at Sawston. Great head-on view when they arrived, and some good crossing shots. Afternoon enhanced by being parked next to a car in which a guy had brought his 92+ year old mother, who had been a WAAF at Scampton on the night of the dams raid. Had an interesting take on the death of the dog we cannot name. Promised to e-mail them some pics. Glad I went - and in future I shall be less critical of those watching airshows from the roadside. Thanks BBMF and the Canadian warplane Heritage

Just two Lancs...

If you were the hand on the throttles of Just Jane in that photo how tempted would you be to just get a foot of air under the wheels for the cameras, and sod ever being invited back?

I certainly know what I'd do.

Derwent flypast took place followed by one run over Chatsworth. Superb! :D

A small but very enthusiastic crowd was at Chatsworth. We hadn't planned to go anywhere near Derwent preferring a lurk near J29 on the M1 instead. However, a BBMF tweet early afternoon mentioning Chatsworth got us up and out over the hills to the big House. Plenty of space.

Vera starts her journey home on Tuesday.

My daughter who was at Chatsworth phoned me this afternoon as the two Lancasters flew over - so I could hear them.

That was a lovely thing to do. It is a long time since I sat on the RH mainwheel on Thumper holding the trolley acc connected (1971).

Nutloose, that's brilliant, thank you from Canada! Am circulating the link asap.

Frustratingly, cannot post the picture mentioned below, but World Naval Ships Forum has a thread entirely devoted to the ship paintings of Jim Rae - who also paints aircraft.

So, please try this link:-

Jims Ship Paintings - Page 132 - World Naval Ships Forums (http://www.worldnavalships.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3338&highlight=jim%27s+ship+paintings&page=132)

......he shows the partially completed water-colour and then, lower down, the finished article of the initial arrival at Coningsby.

I made the tortuous journey there and back through the multitude, cars were parked nose to tail literally miles back from the dams. I was in the forest on the hunt for a good viewing point well before flypast time when the Spitfire and Hurricane flew down the valley (I'd thought they were going to arrive with the Lancasters so I only glimpsed them flashing past through the trees!). Great to see the Lancs in such a setting though and nice to see the Puma ending the day with its own flyby down the valley. That would have made a nice picture from where I was but it took me by surprise, I only had time to wave back at the crewman, I couldn't help myself!

Well I suppose it had to go home at some point:sad:

I still never got to chat with the guys as the fenceline was busy today, although not quite as crazy as the weekend of the first return from the 3 Lancs.

Dunc Mason when asked if they would come back said simply 'Never say Never'.

I saw her arrive, do the 3 practices PDAs then the formation with the Vulcan, return from the first East Kirkby bash. And finally the flypast over Waddington after revisiting the dams and finally watched her go today.

I have still got some pics to sort but will add some over the next few days.

Cheers and safe journey guys
