Hi Guys

I'm quite new here so please forgive me if I get a few things wrong.

Unfortunately I have been diagnosed with nephrotic syndrome, which to break it down is a Kidney Disease/Disorder depending where you look it up. Nephrotic syndrome is a condition where the 'filters' in the kidney become 'leaky' and large amounts of protein leak from your blood into your urine. The main symptom is High Blood pressure, fluid retention (oedema) which is mainly due to the low protein level in the blood. at no stage do the kidneys Fail nor is there a requirement for dialysis.

Having said this I have been Diagnosed with this when i was only 3 weeks old and been lucky enough to have a 22 year gap without a flair up or anything! unfortunately then it came back 2 years ago. I have battled very hard to fight this doing my very best to keep fit and healthy which i am now pleased to say that I am in remission, with a blood pressure of 127 over 78 and normal Urine levels.

Is there anyone here with any information or similar experiences? Would I would be classed as fit or unfit to sit my medical. I'm afraid to sit the exam at the moment due to being told that my dream is over! I know I'll have to face the Music soon but i would like to be better prepared going into the medical.

Kind regards
B

There are several types of nephrotic syndrome, and in addition there are a number of other diseases that can cause it. The management, treatment and prognosis will depend on what sort you have.

If your nephropathy has returned you should be referred to a nephrologist for a full work up and assessment in its own right.

Once this is completed the consultant's report will give you something to approach the CAA with for advice

Good luck
