All,

I'm looking at a new headset and i'm very interested in the David Clark Pro X series. I'm looking to purchase the Passive version, due to the use of passive and non passive headsets in the cockpit and the related interference, and the cheaper price tag.

However, i've noticed that the David Clark website warns that the passive headset does not offer sufficient noise dampening for a piston aircraft, that seems a problem for the Cherokee i fly. Would this really be notably loud compared to other passive models?

If you fly piston, don't get a headset where the manufacturer advises you not to do so. The Pro X is quite nice when flying jet, but the passive dampening of the pistons lower frequency band is not that great. Dampening alone is not a relevant parameter for choosing a headset, Dampening per frequency band is.
