Don't you just love all the Wisdom that can be found on the Internet?

With all the threads at this Forum about Pilot's not understanding Helicopter Control Systems, perhaps this might be required Reading for Co-Pilots just in case their Captain should become incapacitated.

How to Land a Helicopter After Your Pilot Has Been Killed (http://m.wikihow.com/Land-a-Helicopter-After-Your-Pilot-Has-Been-Killed)

I do not endorse the content of this article as my response when asked about this is much simpler and easier for folks to remember should it ever happen to them.

I like this article. As a fixed wing pilot who crashes every helicopter on x-plane seconds after take off it's a good "dummies guide to"

My favourite line of all is:

"This is called hovering, and if you haven't done it before, you will surely crash and die."

and in the WARNINGS section:

"If you slow too much a hover will result, and you will wildly over-control the aircraft for about 8 seconds before you flip over and burn it in."

Yup! I remember that feeling from my first hover attempts during flight training.

8 seconds sounds very generous. I expect the average would be less than half that.

My average would have been less than half of your half Gomer.

Helicopters are pretty tough, and it's not yours anyway, so don't worry about roughing it up.

That's beautiful! Music to my ears, I'll see if we can get that into our ops manual... might have to clean up the verbiage a bit. :}

I love it! There's so much truth behind the sarcastic tone and it takes me back to the hours learning to hover :-)
