Hello,

I am looking for information about floats requirement for single engines flying along the River Thames using Heli routes . I tried AIP but so far found nothing. Is there such a requirement? Please, would any of you guys know where to look?

Many thanks.

Performance Class 3 rules apply.

Also depends on whether it is for the purpose of public transport or not. If not, no requirement for floats. The detail is in the Heathrow section of the AIP.
Edit. No it's not, although a lot of very useful detail is. See sect 9 of the Aerodrome Textual Data.
Then... http://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2005/964/regulation/2/made
Followed by. http://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2009/3015/part/13/made

tu154 has it.

Private flight - no requirement. However, in the event of an emergency landing, the Thames is your destination. Without floats, down you go. With floats, the ending will depend on the tide state and which bridge you bash into.

Passenger flight, hire & reward, you need floats as your emergency landing site is the Thames. However, you can use a single unlike a trip over the Channel.

Just out of interest as an ex-AOC holder, and being a tad on the 'nosey' side ... I once conducted a straw poll asking 18 colleague pilots who were routinely flying B206, 350s etc over the Thames ... "Where would you actually land in an emergency ... the river or alongside if there was a suitable bit of dry land. No prizes. 16 to 2!

Take care all. Dennis K.
