Is Qantas pulling out of Gove Airport in the Top End?

Once the bauxite operation winds down there would be less incentive to fly there.

Wasn't it only QantasLink that operated there? Didn't know mainline went there as well.

Reports here that AirNorth will replace them on the daily route Darwin-Gove-Cairns-Gove-Darwin.

Correct
Reports here that AirNorth will replace them on the daily route Darwin-Gove-Cairns-Gove-Darwin.
I was in TSV today and can confirm from a reliable source that AirNorth will in fact be doing the above route :ok:
All we need now is for AirNorth and definitely JetGo to get a few more contracts in the North and we will finally start getting some decent aircraft, better reliability, safety and comfort again, rather than clapped out old prehistoric Dash 8's serving the North.

Cactusjack unless things went downhill in the last year or so, I recall from my time in the Top End that the only "prehistoric clapped out dash 8s" I saw regularly were those operated by Cobham(?) for the Coastwatch flights. Q'link were using 717s for the Darwin-Gove-Cairns runs, and IIRC 146s before that...

I think what Catusjack was insinuating is that perhaps Airnorth might setup a Cairns base and take on the Skytrans Dash-8 operation given his history of posts on them.

It wasn't Quantas or Qlink who operated from Gove recently. The routes were contracted out. Will be a fortune to fly there now.
