Whilst on my travels today - just passing Wick Airport at about 12.30, I observed a helicopter turning finals to land. Nothing strange there you might say. But this machine was an EC725 in full 'RAF SAR Yellow'. I don't think it was Jigsaw because if I recall they have a fetching black and yellow scheme. I was too far away to see any markings or serial numbers and typically didn't have my camera :ugh: Anybody out there know who's it was?

Sure it was a 725?
Possibly the all yellow EC135 Air Ambulance that operates out of Inverness, based on the far side by the tower.

Iron & Greeny, please tell us what you base your "It's" and "Correct" statement on? The description, "Full RAF Yellow" would mean there being no rear red that NHV have!

And while you're posting, where do you we get the second aircraft from? Edward only mentions the one helicopter sighted !

I believe NHV have a short term contract out of Wick using those types.

The 725 is the military version of the 225, so no point mentioning it and NHV together.....

So it wasn't an NHV then :ok:

I know the engineers and pilots currently crewing it.

Thanks for the replies guys. It wasn't Helimed 5 from Inverness as it wasn't an EC135. It may well have been an EC225 or an L2, I'm not too clued up on the differences, but it was most certainly of the Puma variety. I was just curious as I've never seen one in pure SAR yellow (maybe saying RAF SAR Yellow earlier was misleading). Thanks again.

Gespot op De Kooij: AS332 L2 Super Puma - Piloot & Vliegtuig (http://www.pilootenvliegtuig.nl/2013/02/02/gespot-op-de-kooij-as332-l2-super-puma/)

edwardspannerhands.
What you saw was the NHV AS332L2 Super Puma OO-NHS. This aircraft refuelled at Dundee on Tuesday 29th en route from Belgium to Wick, then routed through the ABZ zone about 5.20pm on its way north.

Helihub - That's the fella! Thanks. I was a bit too far away to spot the little bits of red on it (plus I was trying to watch the road at the same time!!)

Must brush up on my knowledge of EC variants :O

Hello edwardspannerhands,

Very difficult to see the differences between all these Airbus 332/225/725.

You should have said Superpuma to avoid starting a war in the topic ;)

If that's your idea of banter, your crewroom must be a hoot. :hmm:

Well done, but if you read what I posted, "and your experience of crewrooms is …" you would have noticed the plural. :roll eyes:

My idea of a crew room is a Squadrons worth of aviators, raiding the rations locker, avoiding making a brew for the many, fighting for the comfy seats, thinking of reasons why you can't do this mornings ground runs or aircraft wash and taking the michael out of whatever may be the topic of the day. Not 'Billy Bravo 'in a kitchenette with a kettle and a packet of rich tea biscuits reading the latest CHIRP :p

Those days were a very, very long time ago you old (yawn) warhorse.

some of us still remember the days of constant banter and dirty mugs - had never heard of salmonella in those days - or atleast not in the mob.
My current crewroom has a widescreen, dishwasher and lots of food-hygeine stickers....world has gone slightly askew ;-)
