View Full Version : Music Quiz 19
Jolly Hockeysticks 20th May 2002, 00:20 Music Quiz 19
This my last Music Quiz – scran should be back next week. Now, since you seem to think I’ve been beastly to you, and since I’ve got a surplus of lyrics questions, there’s double the usual number with a lot more “easy” ones.
When questions have been completely answered they will turn blur (not automatically unfortunately)
Rules:
a. Questions posted today.
b. Original Artist preferred. Cover versions may be accepted, however.
c. Judges decision final.
d. If any doubts, see rule d!
e. For Lyrics – 2 points for title or artist, 5 if you get both. For trivia, 1 point (but
some will allow a bonus point for additional information) For song of the
week, 1 point per question unless advised.
f. No editing posts.
(For everyone’s enjoyment, please don’t post until you have a significant number of answers. Note that the new software only shows the last edit. SO Rule f is now in force.)

oops messed up the artist for #30
the Original artist was The Troggs
and for trivia B the answer is The Dandy Highwaymen
Binoculars 20th May 2002, 09:54 Love is all around? Is there a trick? Surely it can't be the Troggs that everyone is missing??
As for (a) in the trivia, I'm sitting here at work singing the bloody song to myself but I can't get the answer. I'll play it when I get home in an hour and post the answer then.
Binos
I was half asleep when I did my first posting this morning and mistakinlgy put The Hollies as the artist for it.
The Hollies are the answert to #20
JH,
The answer for e on the trivia is "Steam Packet" :D
ok I need to get ready for work now
Binoculars 20th May 2002, 10:26 Ahh, it finally came to me... it was Mrs Reardon of course!
Simon and Garfunkel
Just an other number 20th May 2002, 11:05 Let's try these -
b – Adam, ‘the dandy highwayman’, was so sick of easy fashion etc
e - And if Rod’s band wasn’t the Hoochie Coochie Men it could only have been Jimmy Powell and The Five Dimensions or Steampacket. I’d go for the former.
j – the 3 o’clock at Kempton Park?
Just an other number 20th May 2002, 11:12 a - or is it Mrs Riordan, not Reordan?
e - and is Steam Packet really Steampacket?
I think I missed out on quite a few right at the very beginning. Damn!!! I hate it when things like sleep get in the way :D
Techman 20th May 2002, 14:22 Or is #20 Reg Dwight?.
Techman,
Wouldn't Reg Dwight the same as Elton John?
Techman 20th May 2002, 15:09 Yes it would Dkosky, but who nows how accurate JH wants it?.
I always thought it was The Hollies who recorded that song in the 60's and Reggie Dwight aka Elton John did a cover in the 70's same with Middle Of The Road
Techman 20th May 2002, 15:34 You are right Dkosky. Released as a single in april '70.
I am am sooo wrong.:o :o
GoneWest 20th May 2002, 15:36 30 - Wet Wet Wet, Love Is All Around. (and before you raise your eyebrows...it was help from Mrs West!!)
Techman,
Nurries, you're giving me a run for my money this week. I am so stuck on the last one. heck!!! If I can budge this tune from my head and divert it onto the chorus I might actually crack this one :)
GoneWest 20th May 2002, 15:41 trivia e...Mrs West is saying Rod Stewart was with Small Faces in those days.
Jolly Hockeysticks 20th May 2002, 16:47 OK. Dkosky has woken up and got his act together. It was the Troggs in 30, The Dandy Highwaymen for b. the Hollies for 20, Steam Packet for e.
Sorry Binos, you got beaten to it by 1 minute by Dkosky on the Troggs, but spot on with Mrs. Riordan, A Most Peculiar Man, Simon & Garfunkel.
Mrs. West if obviously far too young for this (I did mention before that I was a creep...;) )

Techman 21st May 2002, 10:37 Congratulations Dkosky. You win.:p
SUCH A NIGHT - RACEY
I was sitting drinking coffee on a saturday night
the late show had finished so I turned out the light....
Binoculars 21st May 2002, 11:00 GONE WEST:
Wet Wet Wet? Reminds me of a line I saw highlighted in a music article in the 70's; one girl to another in a music shop; "Hey, look at this, Paul Macartney was in a band before Wings!"
Never mind, mate, we'd all swap our knowledge for your age. :(
*shakes Techman's hand*
I've not seen the scores of previous quizes, but this must have been one of the closest :D
I'm glad I kept all these compilation albums that my mum gave me :D

GoneWest 21st May 2002, 15:08 Binoculars...
"Never mind, mate, we'd all swap our knowledge for your age."
No you wouldn't. The wrinkles are starting to show, the insurance is getting more expensive, the chart on the wall is getting more and more blurred.
I'm just happy to have to rely on wifey (who, by the way, says she is in love with JH [following his comments]) to approach questions that may involve Wet Wet Wet as an answer.
Want an extra bit of trivia on your way out??
On the album, Tubular Bells II, who introduced all the instruments, one by one, at the end of the title track.
Extra points for the names of both the guy on the album - and the guy on the live concert in Edinburgh...not the same person!!
rightstuff 21st May 2002, 18:32 Vivian Stanshall.The live version was I think Pierre ??????
Can I have a couple of points please?
Who wrote I'm a Believer as performed by The Monkees?
rightstuff 21st May 2002, 18:38 Sorry about that I didn't RTFQ.the correct answer is Alan Rickman before he took control of Nottingham and had a bit of a set to with kevin Costner.
GoneWest 21st May 2002, 21:14 Rickman it was - on the album
I'm a Believer was Neil Diamond.
Call it even??
AIRBUS ERROR 22nd May 2002, 10:45 Guys,
Anyone ever heard of Blondel De Nesle (something to do with the ledgend of Richardthe Lionheart).... lived around 1149, songs include Ma Joie Me Semont and L'Amours Dont Sui Epris?
Just wondering because it seems like I'm the only one who's heard of the poor guy so far!
AE
Jolly Hockeysticks 22nd May 2002, 11:08 This has got to be the oldest music question ever asked on this Quiz...;)
I believe Blondel was the guy that, when Richard I was captured, wandered around Europe singing Richard's particularly favourite songs until he heard Richard joining in, then he told the chaps where to go to rescue him.
JH
techman, I probably won't be awake when the next quiz is posted as I've got to have an early start on monday morning :(
by that time a fair chunk of the questions would have been answered.
