Hello Ladies and Gents,

As always, I appreciate, and have always appreciated the responses I have had from the vast majority of people on here. They have always proved useful and informative.

As has been commented in a few different threads, usually about how to get a foot in the door with companies, door-stepping companies and FBOs etc. to get your CV in the door, or just to get your face known and talk to people etc.

I am approaching the time when I will start to "market" myself (for use of a better word) and intend to go to FBOs at the business airports and other locations around London as a starting point. A few days ago, I drove to BQH, just to have a look and see where facilities and the likes were, and how to access them. I noted that Rizon Jet and the rest of the Business Aviation service providers are behind a "first defence" barrier as you come off the road which goes around the perimeter, and then slightly further towards the buildings.

Is it going to be easy to get to go to these facilities without having an "appointment" or any official "business"? Or will most places turn you away at the security gates/barrier etc.?

Sorry for the slightly odd question/request, but it was just something that I suddenly thought, of driving around the South East of the UK to go to all these places, only to end up not being able to get anywhere near them.

Thanks,

TS
:)

You don't say what position you are seeking. At some point throughout the year, representatives of the various airports and FBO's can be found at one of the many trade shows. Put a suit on and go network at the trade shows, that will likeliest be your route in.

Sorry asdf1234, my apologies. I forgot that some people will not have seen my previous deluge of drivel on here… :)

I am a commercial FA, looking to change to corporate flying as an FA. I would also consider ground roles within an FBO, front of house and co-ordination of service etc… Live about 15 minutes from BHQ and within 60-90 minutes all the London airports etc…

I am going to EBACE in May, so, of course will be looking to do just as you have said whilst I am there, but thought it might be good to do some local networking as well before/after EBACE.

Tray, my gut instinct is the strategy you mention below is flawed. Most people in the FBOs will be busy with the day job and disinclined to drop everything for a pop up job seeker - if you get past the front desk/security. I suggest a better way of doing it would be to call them and ask the name/email of the head hostie, then drop them a line and ask if you can pop by one day. You're much more likely to get a couple of responses and not annoy them by just pitching up. Of course there is a chance you might catch a wave, but I think a much greater likelihood that you'll get yourself a pain-in-the-ass label. Just my 2c.

Tray Surfer,

I have tried what you suggest( albeit for an FO job) and the barrier at the perimeter is a problem. When I eventually blagged my way past security at one place, the people I wanted to see were out anyway. EBACE is my next step possibly.

Ok. Thanks for the information everyone, I appreciate it. I will re-think my approach to it all.

Indeed I do!

Thank you.

And thanks to all who replied. A bit of a duff plan, so best left at that… :D
