Banning sandwiches isn't enough. This advert destined for Soldier magazine was also deemed a bit aggressive.

Someone in the Army needs to get a grip on reality. This one of the most important campaigns running for servicemen and women and should have everyone's full support - especially in the higher echelons

Makes you proud to be British doesn't it. RBS which WE own made a loss of 8.2 billion last year yet still found the wherewithall to pay 588 million in bonus to it's hardworked little darlings who get worn out shuffling money from one computer screen in one country to another. Makes my blood boil.

Perhaps they objected to the word 'rights' as this has not been established, as much as I think it should have been by now.
From the moment the MoD and government spin machine started to quote the total future value of the widow's pension, as part of the overall widow's compensation/settlement, this whole issue has enraged a fair few of us. They never seemed to be be keen on pointing out that this element ceases as soon as widows try to rebuild their lives.

Don't other public bodies such as the police have the same rules? As do some private companies - based on the principle that widows/widowers aren't dependant any more?

Come on Al R, the RAF News makes the witting of even Joseph Goebbels look unbiased, fair and balanced journalism. According to the RAF News, the only people in the RAF are Typhoon and 617 aircrew.

Give it ten years and they might be right. I was watching MOTD last night, can't remember which match it was but they gave the crowd figures as they do for each match and it was around the number of people in the RAF. There didn't look to be that many people in the stadium...
The RAF would fill around one half of Old Trafford.

Separation and dislocation from ‘normal’ society, the upheaval of relentless postings, career breaks, caring for children, the removal of child benefit tax breaks for anyone in a household where someone earns over £50,000, supporting someone who is worked until he wants to drop.. all result in a tendency to relegate their own financial well-being to the bottom of the list.
The public sector pay freeze and uncertain economic conditions are making things worse, but the tendency is to cut back on things that aren’t a necessity, and women cut back on personal retirement provision.. they have to rely on a pension that their partner is expected to provide for them. When the positives of a military career are accentuated, this huge drawback has been overlooked.

So a young soldier, gets blown to pieces in some ****ehole, where politicos decided to send him so that they could look big on the world stage and all going well, get more votes - or at the very least a better paid job when they get chucked out of office.
This soldier was 28 with 3 kids and because his young and very pretty wife decides she wants to re-build her life 5 years later ---------- their children have to do without the only legacy the soldier left behind.
Government and worse still Generals you should hang your heads in shame.

The NHS has a discretion which allows them not to do it and the Northern Ireland Assembly has just passed legislation which means that widows and widowers of members of PSNI and RUC do not lose their pensions - and it is retrospective.

The loss of pension was ever thus.
My field of nollidge is the Great War.
A soldier, commissioned QM from the ranks in 1912, was decorated and rose to QM and Hon major, compulsorily retired in 1919 with pension. He then died. His widow eventually remarried.
Total loss of pension to widow.
At the risk of provoking brickbats, the rules are there when folk sign up, we are not talking about breach of contract by the Treasury.
I hasten to add that I don't think the situation is fair, but its not new.

Ahh the RAF News; soft strong and thoroughly absorbent. I just think morale could be improved by giving us proper toilet paper instead of that single ply sandpaper.
