That proves it, we have been wasting way too much money on these fancy SAR birds with all their fancy gizmos and hoists- the R-22 is the future for SAR, and perhaps a R-22 with a glock armed crewmember for CSAR :E

Some amazing photos and good to see the Robinson getting some positive comments for a change----a good effort by the pilot who put the safety of others before anything else----what his insurance company and the CAA would say is another thing----perhaps that's the sad bit for a guy who did his best for others------!!

MPN11, It's a standard technique in the Swiftwater Rescue world, a so called "no knot" or "Tensionless Hitch". They are commonly tied around tree's to provide strong anchors that can be released easily under full load. All the load is transfered to the object the rope is wrapped around via friction...an inspired choice in this unconventional application....I assume the R44 skid has a somewhat rough surface?
