I note, with some sadness that Air NZ are gradually retiring the Queen of the Skies from their fleet, with only 2 examples remaining.

The noise that they often make on long haul departures from 23L at Auckland when after climbing on the SID to 3000' they make a right turn and come over my neighborhood is very distinctive.

Just wondering if any crews might be able to let me know what flap setting they are usually at after rolling out on the heading to the boundary.

Certainly to the casual observer it appears to be more than 5 degrees or so.

Also is the early left turn preferred? I realize that this is dependent on the amount of traffic to the south of the airport and or any weather in the vicinity.

Any comments appreciated.
