U.S. Navy's newest ship a floating tribute to those who stormed cockpit of Flight 93 on September 11 | Mail Online (http://www.mailonsunday.co.uk/news/article-2569709/Navy-ship-bears-reminders-Sept-11-crash-Pa.html)

Good article and good pictures of the cousins latest vessel, at dedication ceremony in Philly.
Shows the Osprey landing on the flight deck, photos of inside and outside the ship. Also some really fit looking women cheerleaders being shown about.
I remember being alongside at just about the very same berth, July 1985 on Lusty.... seems a very long time ago now.

USS Somerset is entirely linked with the people who died on-board Flight 93 on that terrible day in 2001. The ship is dedicated to those people.

I cant help but compare how the US Navy goes about events like this, to our dear old Royal Navy.

Yes, a great article that repeats itself every second article <sigh>

However, having it as an LPD is certainly more fitting than a destroyer, frigate or attack sub. These vessels are much more flexible and see more use on humanitarian missions, so kudos there.

May she sail in peace for the benefit if all.

At least in America, Somerset is ABOVE the water, unlike in the UK. ;)

Very good indeed.

I like the modified US Flag and the "Let's Roll" painted on the ships deck structure.

A tribute indeed.

I think Somerset, UK could use some cheer leaders like those to boost male morale at present!

Didn't we used to have ships that big? What did we call them ... ah, Aircraft Carriers!

I'm sure a couple of LPHs would be a useful addition to the RN ... what could we name them? ;)

9-11, Flight 93, and the Somerset is more than a date, an airplane, and a ship!

I knew Sandy.
