Where does one go for an EASA medical in Dubai and how much is it?

GMC Clinics - Healthcare Clinics in Dubai, Primary Healthcare Dubai: Dr. Ralph Joyce (Group Medical Director) details (http://www.gmcclinics.com/our_doctors_details.php?doctorID=37)

between 1600 and 1800

Check this and search for Dubai:
AME Search Results | Medical | Personal Licences and Training (http://www.caa.co.uk/application.aspx?catid=49&pagetype=65&appid=21&mode=list&county=Non-UK)

Is Dr Akel still doing the famous mud-guard check during the medical?

I thought it was a myth until it happened during my interview!

I almost think he does it for a laugh just because it started as a crazy rumour...

Early in March this year, i renewed my UAE & UK Class 1 Medicals at Synergy Medical, and the lady AME told me that Dr.Akel has now (finally) retired, and returned to the USA.
Fwiw, I liked Dr.Akel and, at 80 years of age, I thought he was remarkably capable (and, more importantly, practical) when it came to the issuing of our Certificates... and one can but hope that his successors will be similarly 'enlightened'.

Call me an old conspiracy theorist, but I still prefer to head back to the UK to get my medical done in a place where there is NO connection to this place.
The walls have ears, information does get shared, I've seen it first hand in the clinic, and to be honest, I'd prefer that my EASA medical fitness was determined by someone I know and trust, who ultimately has my best interests at heart.

I had absolutely no problem with Dr Joyce. He was very positive and gave me the medical with the minimum of fuss. Total cost including cholesterol check and ECG was about 1150AED.

Synergy Clinic (not synergie as ABBOT said) - their number is +971 (4) 348 5452
GMC clinic seems to be a lot more professional than them, so I suggest whoever comes here looking for somewhere to renew their medical go to GMC instead.

I called Synergy up and they said they do EASA class 1 renewals, but no initials. I'm looking to join a pilot course in December that is 4 months in the US doing FAA and 8 months in Spain doing EASA. The woman on the phone told me that initials have to be done in the issuing state...

Does this mean I have to fly to Spain if I want to get my initial done? That would be a massive hassle.

Just a word of caution if you wear glasses. Remember the opthalmology report that's required every 2 years and in the UK can be done by any high street optician as part of a £15 eye-test?

Unsurprisingly it's not so simple in Dubai. Opticians in the malls can't or won't fill out the form for you, so you'll have to go and see a "specialist" who'll charge AED600 for the privilege (reduced to a mere AED500 if you're referred by Synergy).

The form is on the CAA website, so much better to get the eye test done back in the UK prior to the medical if possible.

Dr Joyce worked well for me. Home would probably be best. But that a very biased opinion.

Hi!

Just tried to make an appointment in GMC only to discover that dr.Joyce is no longer working in UAE. Anybody knows another clinic in Dubai?

I went to Dr Rachel Hayek. She's a bit of a pain but the end result was good. Very nice Phillipino nurse called Irene who definitely does her best to help.

Hi guys! Has someone recently done a medical class 1 revalidation in Dubai?
The French website of DGAC is proposing me Dr. ALAMEDDIN Adham in Top Medical center and Dr. HAYEK Rachel (previously mentioned on this thread).

What are your experiences?
Do you recommend me to make it in EU?

Thank you in advance!

I renewed mine last month with Dr. ALAMEDDIN Adham at Top Medical. Very straight forward and no agenda like some doctors seem to have.
