It was on this date in 1945, 126 US Army Rangers and assisting Filipino Resistance Fighters rescued 522 American POW's from the Cabanatuan Prison Camp.....far behind Japanese Lines and from the close proximity of large units of the Japanese Army.
The Rangers were supported by Air Force aircraft that flew over the camp to divert the Guard's attention away from the Rangers who were crawling many hundreds of Meters to get to their attack positions which was on the far side of an open grassy field.
The story of the Raid has been made into a film....which was very well done.
