I suppose that there's stupid, and there is really stupid:

A helicopter pilot is facing an investigation for allowing two men to dangle from the skids of his aircraft, while drinking beer.

The dangerous stunt was part of the latest social media craze, which Queensland authorities fear could soon kill.

On a rural road two men in a Ferrari are "nominated" for a dare. They pull up at a property.. where their plan is revealed.

But safety goes out the window as brothers Tristan and Bobby Tesoriero run towards the already hovering helicopter.

They grab hold of a skid each and the pilot takes off. While they hang on, a fourth person hands each of them a beer.

They skull their drinks above a dam, hold on a little longer then fall into the water..

Australia's Civil Aviation Safety Authority now wants to know who was flying.

"There's a real risk to the lives of the people that are hanging off the skids. That's why we have rules which don't allow you to be on the skids of helicopters," Peter Gibson from CASA said.

As part of the social media game the drinkers "nek-nominate" more people, challenging them to do better.

"I just can't believe that people are stupid enough to do this sort of thing," Health Minister Lawrence Springborg said of the drinking game.

"If you want to be an idiot and kill yourself, then do this sort of madness."

All Black forward Steven Luatua has apologised after he featured in one of the videos.

In front of at least one child a beer is chugged through a firearm, another man smashes his empty stubbie before plunging metres off a bridge.

Another man drinks in the back of a ute while his mate does burn outs.

Experts are concerned that not only does the craze glorify binge drinking but combines it with stunts, which are becoming more elaborate and more dangerous.

"It's peer pressure and the pressure is to do more and more and get bigger and better and that's a problem," Mitchell Giles from Lives Lived Well said.

Authorities want it to end before laughter turns to tears.

Perhaps its a film stunt? Saw the Queen parachuting out of an AW139 last year, how many gin and tonics did she have beforehand?

I expect they completed a risk assessment report on the back of packet of fags, don't know what you are worried about!
Its the pilot crashing with all those loose bottles of beer, how did he get them through security?

You might think he's wearing the helmet for the purpose of mounting the camera but actually it's so that no matter what happens there will always be enough of his brain left to make a decent plate of soup. After all, it wouldn't be any use for anything else. :)

Looks like fun. No harm done, what's the problem? Pilot looks capable, a little stupid, but capable. I was young and dumb once too. I suppose if it were fire fighters or rescuers than it would be ok huh?

You've lost me there.

You've lost me there.

Never seen a rescuer hop on a skid to save someone?
Or a pilot drop his skids to allow someone to cling on to in order to save them from drowning or get off a building which is on fire?
There is not always time for a risk assessment.

What's that got to do with the video? Did he have a gun to his head?

I don't have a particular view on the antics of the pilot in the vid, but you cannot compare what he's doing to an off the cuff spontaneous life-saving event.

No, really - you can't.

I am referring to the reverse auto video which seems to have disappeared, posted by hirobowen. The first vid of the drunks hanging on the skids is just absurd. It's wrong in so many ways, not least where the CofG was with all three of them well forward.

According to press the video has gone viral…two young Irishmen died a few days ago, one drowned after jumping into water from a bridge…wonder where he got that idea from?
