Hello All,

Wasn't really sure which forum to post this in, but anyways......

I was wandering if there are any reputable scale model manufacturers for static models within the UK that anyone can recommend.

Am looking to potentially be able to send copy of paint scheme etc and have model of certain aircraft made.

Found a few companies in Philippines etc but would rather have made in the UK.

Thanks in advance

BB

The Wooden Model Company - Cars, Planes, tanks, ships, helicopters, motorbikes (http://www.thewoodenmodelcompany.co.uk/)

Appears to be UK based, and although it looks like they mainly do wooden, their website does talk about doing comissions with specific livery, so they might be worth contacting, if only to get a price point to compare to the Philippines ones.

Depending on what you want a model of, another alternative might be to approach a local plastic modelling club (or maybe at a show) and see if anyone would do a comissioned model for you. Obviously standards vary (so don't ask me, for example!) but there are some people who build stuff that is easily museum quality.

A pal of mine got one done there (J31), wasn't cheap but he's very happy although I think the model was in far to good shape to be an accurate representation of the shyte heap :)

I wouldn't rule out the Philippines.
I had Winston Uy's company do me a wooden model from photographs and was very pleased with the result, not to mention the price and careful packaging.
I think he also has some good off the shelf ones on Ebay under 'Builderscience'.

I got two done of our Beagle Pup by a Filipino company. I think they were about £120 each, delivered, VAT paid etc. The quality was excellent. Delivery was a bit slower than expected but within a few weeks.

That's the same price range as the nice airplanes models.

Nice airplanes

What I liked about them is that its a completely interactive production of the model. Its not just a generic type model painted in some company's colours. They get all the features of the individual aircraft if you want with the option for oil stains and hydraulic leaks if you so wish. Gear up gear down flaps up flaps down you just have to ask.

The guy that's makes them is a retired RAF air trafficker and his brother inlaw paints them.

The time and attention to detail they do to be honest I think they are under charging. I would have been happy to pay twice as much for the model of the old shyte heap as Dan would say that they made me. In fact I think its 3 if not 4 of that particular shyte heap that they have done now as it was a particular favourite airframe of both pilots and engineers.

I've just checked, and mine was US$68 plus $28 for the postage. That was 2 years ago for a 30cm span model.
6 weeks from order to the model arriving.

I've just looked at their website, astonished at their prices-£140 for a custom made model is very good, I think.

I found the prices..£99.50 each and £49.50 to deliver two models by Fedex. Then there was VAT and handling at my end. So not that cheap but the model is lovely.

And no, I don't get commission from them.
I'll try Nice Airplanes for my next model

It is shark I was that mate.

The only issue with nice aircraft is that he has a huge waiting list. So its months until he gets round to your model. If its for yourself its well worth the wait but if your buying it for a present with a date in mind you need to order it 6-9 months in advance.

And I am just a very happy customer of theirs. I have only every exchanged humorous emails with him about the model.

He makes up the base model using either pics you have supplied or off airliners dot net in what ever configuration you want. Then they send you pics and you can request any changes. Then they do the first paint and send you pics. Then after the changes have been done if any required it gets varnished (it might not be varnish but some clear covering) After they do that it takes 2 weeks to cure completely. Then they send it out to you.

As I said I would have been happy to pay double the price for the quality of the end result.
