Hello,

USA based pilot here, finally have the seniority to regularly hold trips to points south of the equator. Interested in some practical weather advice from locally based pilots re: common weather patterns and operational issues that arise as a result, particularly at Sydney and Auckland. Either any info you would be wiling to share of your own experience, or links to good documents online. Googling "southern hemisphere aviation weather" doesn't return much beyond Wikipedia. Thanks in advance,

H

Try here:

Knowledge Centre (http://www.bom.gov.au/aviation/knowledge-centre/)

See also on this board the thread about "Virgin Emergency Landing" just how often the weather forecasts are completely wrong.

As for operational issues - the old story about the Qantas captain, who on first contact with Sydney approach from the east one morning, told them he was retiring and that he just wanted to let them know that Sydney had the worlds second best ATC. When asked who the best was, the reply was "everybody else".
