Financial help for PPL ?

Hi guys!

I have decided to enrol myself for a PPL(A) program which cost no less than £8k.

I was wondering if there is any way to get financial help from banks or even from the Professional Career Development Loan (PCDL).

Have anyone tried that?

If you did get help to gain a licence....... how are you going to continue to fly post training, & safely. Keep going for a handout?

You can borrow money from the bank for almost anything - but sadly have to pay it back. And at the same time want to then spend money flying once qualified...

In most cases a PPL is a hobby qualification, and most of us have to pay for our own hobbies.

Find a very understanding employer! Mine allows employees to pay up to £960 a year from our pre-tax salary into a learning fund which they boost by 50% and which can then be used in payment for any personal learning activity. I paid in for two years and got £960 (well, less after tax) towards my PPL, which I started at the start of the second year - certainly helped :ok:

There are other, cheaper options if you want to aviate: NPPL, gliding, hang-gliding, parascending, etc.

As PA28121 said, if you're needing to borrow money for the initial qualification, how are you going to be able to afford to fly after that? The time after you get your licence is when you really need to consolidate and build experience.

I hate to say this but if you can't afford it, don't do it. Worrying about the cost while doing a skills test is not the best way of passing it.

Cheapest is usually to add the cost of he PPL to your mortgage.

But as others have said, this only gets you the licence, it doesn't help you fly afterwards.

Better still, be a failed immigrant and get Newcastle Council to pay for the cost of your PPL...... :ugh:

I'm not a failed asylum seeker but a native of Newcastle and I can't even get my bins emptied but it's nice to know where my money is going. :mad:
