Apparently Santa is from India....at least for EK Boeing pilots:ok:

I didn't hear anything in that video that said a380 ops were approved just that meetings were going to occur.

Its a slow process, but the ball is rolling....

Its only a matter of time until EK 380's go to India. Might be 5 years, but two class 380 night turns will be a reality some day.

Why is everybody so keen to fly to India all of a sudden ?

Because we're all fed up of slow boring accents on the radio and we like the efficiency of the turnarounds we get at these state of the art facilities. Who wants to go to Heathrow, JFK or Mauritius for 24 long boring hours in the bright daylight when you can have a nice peaceful night through the very Gentlemanly workings of Mumbai?

Not to forget the charming scents wafting around and the 21 bum salute on the wall in Mumbai :uhoh:

and the 21 bum salute on the wall in Mumbai

That view would be even more enhanced from the 380 upper deck and with the current waits at the 27 holding point I am sure will add to the Emirates experience as the J and F pax quaff their bubbly:)

A380 ops will most likely be approved just in time for the arrival of the 2-class (510t MTOW) aircraft. Scheduled for October 14'

Keep in mind Lufthansa and Singapore Airlines have been pushing for India A380 ops and they can continue to push for the approval as Air India is still attempting to join Star Alliance. (Failed last year).

Keep in mind that most of the 380 pilots were once on the 330/340 fleet and have done more than their fair share of India turnarounds.

More than most 777 pilots will probably ever do in their whole career here.

have done more than their fair share of India turnarounds

...no kiddin' but, as ima said, having a couple of turnarounds to facilitate swapping won't hurt.

having to pack a suitcase every time I go to work is what I don't like about an otherwise quite nice operation.

Fair enough Z, it's just a little amusing how some on other fleets may get one or two India turns in a bottom bid month and think it's the end of the world! Whereas folks on the 330/340 fleet sometimes have had up to 8 turns in a month (not all Indias, but night turns nonetheless).
Some folks need some perspective!

8 turns in a month!?! Think my record is 10. Plus I did go eight months without a layover, that's 57 consecutive turn-arounds...Have I earned my 380 slot yet?! :}

Only 10 turns a month? Luxury. When I was on the 330 we had to wake up 5hrs before we went to bed. Tell kids today and they won't believe you.

So even better to have so many experienced guys flying to India on the 380.

Don't envy you though....
Partly back on the old schedule...

Absolute Luxury! When my mate was at Ryanair he did 20 turnarounds in a month, had to pay the Airline so that he could do them and got sent to work with no food!:ouch:

As ATC I have wondered if when you guys do a Doha, is that it or do you do a Bahrain or similar on the same duty?

As I typed that I recall it is different fleets for that pairing but you get the gist. Do you do multi returns to Dubai on any fleets?

Don't think it happens at the moment but it certainly has in the past, sometimes with an aircraft swap in the middle! Made for a long day to get 5 hours or so in the logbook.

I think the problem was that with 4 sectors it took us quite close to duty time limits.

When we only had A310/A300s it was regular thing. Four sectors, with an aircraft swap in the middle (and a social visit to the Tower). It was a long day, and a classic case of misapplication of capacity.

Just our of Curiosity as an SLF on this route.

There must be at least 16 flights a Day out of DEL / MUM to DXB currently and I have yet to fly a 737, 320, 321, 777, 330 on this route that was packed solid to the gills over the past 12 months. With Jet connecting to EY for onwards from some of the smaller metros in the coming month this will only reduce the load on these routes.

What are the Economics of flying the 380 on such a short sector unless they plan to convert them into the 800 pax carriers with standing room and then some on the roof :E ? Would not a more frequent 737 service as a feeder be a more commercially viable option than a 500 seater?

Insights on this much appreciated.

You could shorten the question to "what are the economics of flying the A380", period.

Then look over the projected orders for the comically inept device and you will have your answer.

Wannabe Flyer
21st Dec 2013, 08:46
I did as you asked and considering most pending orders for the 380 seem to be from EK plus only a couple of carriers I was wondering why EK who is not really inept would then make such a move?

Trust in an indirect way you have said that there is no Economical sense in using this aircraft....Period!

EDIT: -5 for Kingfisher unless they giving them away for free so 119/245 ordered . Close to 50% of order completed!
