JAA Theory etc. in OZ

Anyone know anyone who is doing JAA theory in Oz these days? WAAC is not and the purple passport is looking good given recent events at our national carrier.

East coast would be a lot more convenient than Perth anyway if there's someone around.

There isn't anyone in Australia, the next best option is to do distance learning from the UK.

I am currently sitting my 14 exams with the Austrian Authorities in Vienna . They have given me an exemption from an approved study course because of my airline experience and I just sit the exams. I use Atplonline.co.uk , often advertised on prune and google to study. Working so far but haven't sat any technical exams yet.
The price of exams , courses and issue of licence varies hugely around Europe at the moment. Each countries civil authorities trying to earn some cash. Greece, Spain and Ireland especially.
For new pilots I would not recommend this method.
Europe does seem to have more jobs for F/O's with about 500 hrs on type, and I have met quite a few yong guys and girls who fully expect to self fund (pay to fly), to reach that level. I don't think that happens in Australia yet?

As said above... Spent yrs in EU, its not the place to be at the moment. More happening in Aus then EU right about now.

WAAC used to offer JAA ground study and you also could sit EASA exams in Perth. Unfortunately this opportunity does not longer exist as WAAC has stopped offering JAA.

It is correct that you may be excempted from doing a full approved course i.e. able to buy a distance learning course from an approved provider such as Bristol. However, you need an EASA approved examination centre in order to sit the actual exams. So worst case you have to fly to Europe for exam sitting.

The Australia sat exams finish by UK CAAi after the sitting in March.
If you're exempt and hand in the application as per their deadlines, whichever they are, you could do your best in February or March.

After that, you'd be still able to go to closer Kuala Lumpur (done at British council on behalf of). Sure, there's a premium payable on top of about 120AUD per exam or so for CAAi locations, but if you're up for it..

Any waivers of/exceptions to compulsory 'ground school' ie revision/brush up classes on top of distance study, as mentioned, would need to be approved/checked with the CAA of relevant country.

Hi Gents,

Ive been in touch with the Examination Centre Cordinator for UK CAAi and they are currently working on a cyberexam system co-colaborated with a New Zealand based company. The good news with this is that we can soon see a Australasian based exam centre.

However we need to drum up support to let UK CAAi know that there are enough pilots who are in real need of this exam centre and to maintain this open in PER for now until the cyberexam system is underway!!

So if any of you are interested PM me with your email addys and on sentence why you wish to see a exam centre this part of the world and I will include you in an email to CAAi outlining the interest down under!!

Ive narrowed it down with Phil Croucher's book EASA ATPL and aviationexam.com for the question bank. By my amateurish calculations, seems to me the most logical and cost-effective method to get the job done.. I too am exempted from the ground school requirement since I hold an FAA ATP. If anyone can provide some guidance and/or feedback - this I would appreciate much!!!
