Hi

Does anyone know if you have to have the night rating issued for the IR? I have completed all the night training but not applied for the licence yet.
Could you not apply for the night rating and IR at the same time?

Thanks

It's an experience requirement - so so long as you have it documented in your logbook then that should suffice.

They are, naturally, not counted towards the 45/55 hour reuqirement for the IR itself. Incorporated in the IR privilages (when issued) is the ablity to fly at night. You cannot exercise those priviages to fly at night until you either have the night stuff OR the IR added to your PPL
And, being pedantic, it's an Instrument Rating which you attach to an existing licence

You certainly could 6 months ago when I did mine, claimed my CPL, MEP, IR and Night Rating all in one. A significant saving on the cost (and waiting time) of claiming each separately.
