That is such a dreadful shame, Phil was a really lovely instructor to learn from, and I enjoyed learning from him at DHFS very much. This has been a sad week for the SH Force. RIP.

Sad news... Gutted...

He was an absolute pleasure to fly with, even when I was a student at Shawbury and Benson...

Posted to the Senior Sqn... RIP

Sad news indeed - Phil was one of the stalwarts of the Puma Force; a pleasure to know, and to fly with - sleep well my friend.

My condolences to his family.

I'm very sad to hear of this. I worked with "Pins" on the Puma OCU some years ago but had lost touch. :(

RIP mate.

I'm reading this just after 6pm. Not an hour ago I was thinking about Phil and a few other pilots I classed as top drawer operators back in my time on Pumas. He was up there. Important to note that he taught crewmen too- he would indulge anyone who wanted to learn a bit more, with his time and knowledge.

RIP

Worked with Phil on the Puma force, a gentleman. Never wanted my first post to be this. RIP.

My Puma OCU Flt Cdr first time around. When they were 50/50 on whether jayteeto would make it on 33 Squadron, he made the decision to give me a chance. The rest is history, I owe him big time. RIP

Flew with Phil on the C130 force. Great guy one of life's gentlemen. A very sad week for the SH force and the service.

RIP Phil and condolences to your family.

Phil and I served in the OCU together but there was a huge gulf between us. He had been there, done it (AFC) and had vast flying and instructional experience.

Another sad loss and my sympathies to all close to Phil.

Everything you could ask for in a gentleman, a pilot, an instructor and a person. Great talent, oodles of patience and always having the time to go the extra mile, and with a beaming smile.

You have achieved so much for so many and never asked for anything back. RiP Phil, another dram tonight for another great loss. My thoughts are with your family and all who knew and loved you.

Two generations of my family were lucky enough to know Phil on 33 sqn and had the pleasure of his company later in life at the flight sim, Benson.
R.I.P. Mr.P, it was a pleasure to know you.

A sad day indeed. Flew with Phil on 230, as an Instructor on Gazelles, back to the Puma and then on the C130, including one flight into Shawbury where the whole crew were ex-rotary.

Spoke with him a few months ago and he sounded just the way I have always known him.

Condolences to Sheila and the whole family from Me and Jo.

That's very sad news.

We did a couple of tours together and he was a very good instructor indeed.
Very much a team player and a good Puma OCU Boss.

He will be missed.

Sad news, condolences to the family. Worked together on Gazelle at Shawbury but unfortunately never with him whilst on the Puma force, however, his reputation on type was well known. Safe journey to the stars.

Had the honour of flying with Pyn many times. He was the Flt Cdr on 240Sqn when I completed the OCU. Flew with him again on 230 in NI. Clearly a very talented pilot he was always totally relaxed and certainly brought the best out of me.

RIP Phil.

I first flew with Phil during Op Agila in Rhodesia/Zimbabwe in 1979, where he had some heritage, and we visited a grave of one of his family together. He was a lovely man and a fine pilot who will be sorely missed by all who knew him. My condolences to Sheila and family.

Sirs, Ladies and Gents

The funeral for Sqn Ldr (Retired) Phil Pynegar AFC will take place at 1400 on Wed 18 Dec at All Saints Church, Didcot, followed by a Wake in the Officers’ Mess at RAF Benson (provisionally 1530-2000).

The family have put out an open invite to the church ceremony and subsequent Wake in the Mess to all those who knew Phil and we have been encouraged to attend in uniform (No1s with medals – no black armbands).

Please PM me if you wish to attend so that we can let the family know rough numbers (unfortunately MT is not currently able to provide transport to/form Didcot).

CJ or anyone.

Are there any changes to the funeral arrangements, due to obvious local developments??

All

Despite the activity near Phil's grave, the funeral is still going ahead as planned.
