Saw a PA31 G-STHA in Luton (EGGW) last night with the LH engine covered with a plastic tarpaulin. The prop was feathered and from the angle the engine was at, would say that is has possibly come off it's rear mounts as it was pointing towards the ground at a noticeably different angle from the RH engine....eek.
Just wandered if anyone knew anymore on what had happened to this machine.

I've no doubt the flight regime at the time helped but WHAT an incredible save.

There's a huge amount of metal acting like an air brake there and I can only imagine what the vibration could have been like while that thing was still rotating.

I take my hat off to those guys.

WOW! I've seen a jug blow through the cowling on a big radial before but never anything like that on an opposed engine.

ATTN EGMC: Congratulations to both of you getting that home safely. Well Done!!!!

Not much sign of oil.

In this report from the AAIB check out the picture of an O-540 after No#1 cylinder left the party! (Figure 2 page 13)
The Navajo picture looks more like figure 3 or 4 after cleaning!!
