Seems the RAF was formed in 1912!

…and ended in 2012, which is 2 years later than I thought.

Well the front cover review was done by the Mail, so that has to be a kiss of death.

Well, the Army Balloon Factory was renamed the Royal Aircraft Factory in 1912...

No doubt referring to the signing of the Royal Warrant establishing the RFC 13 April 1912. Pity they couldn't tell the diference re RFC/RAF.

The foundation date for the RAF was not particularly auspicious though - 1 April 1918. :p

We know when the RAF was formed but the story didn't start in 1918 and from the review, it looks like a well written and researched book.

The hardback - well, the one sitting six feet away from me at the moment - has a different subtitle, the more accurate 'One hundred years of British aerial warfare'. Very odd.

I await the posts claiming that the retitling is all an evil plot by Timo Anderson coercing the publisher with weary cynicism...
