Noted this piece from the BBC ...

A museum's project to rebuild a WWII aeroplane from the wrecks of others collected over 40 years has begun.

However in the Times today I noted the headline "Barracuda will take to the skies again".

Has someone got this a bit wrong do you think ... Restored to non-flying status maybe ... and I guess that would be a push at the quoted c. £60k ... But "airworthy" ... :=

There's zero chance of the Barra' ever flying. She's very much a 'collect wreck parts and panel beat them 'til they're back in the shape they started as' project. That enables the team to reuse original parts in the build that would otherwise be only any use as templates for new material.

PS: The work is being done by the same team restoring the Blue Bird.

The first picture reminds me of the back part if the Malta Aviation Museum, bless them. Piles of bits of aircraft, and a minimal chance of ever getting them assembled into display condition as resprayed corpses.

However, just putting the bits and pieces into place is a "good thing". Where would we be if all we had was grainy B&W photos? Even such a beast as Barry Cuda deserves to be seen in the flesh.
