Can anyone recommend a good place to do the Flight Instructor course in the south west? I'm based near Bath so ideally near as possible but cant seem to find anywhere which isn't more than an hours drive away, with Bristol not being available.

Obvious ones I've looked at are Thruxton, Gloucester and Exeter.

Also, does it have to be done at an approved FTO and is it possible to use your own aircraft? Wondering if I can find an instructor who can use our local field and our flying clubs PA28?

Thanks for the help

Aircraft used for an EASA Course must be on the school's list of approved aircraft which must be in the operations manual and on the record supplied to the NAA.

You would need to find a school which was willing to add your aircraft to their approval.

You also would need insurance to cover the examining activity as examiners are meant to see this. I believe the UK CAA require £1,000,000 as the coverage but can't remember between all the different countries requirements from their examiner briefings.
